WotW: I have just finished the 4th of the 5 parts. Pending Revision.
Il Torri Setti: Almost through the first act.
Storm-breach: scrapped 1-1. halfway through 1-2; I quit right at the epic battle scene.
KttM: Revised and ready for publication.
Things are going quicker than expected. Thanks for asking.
Wow. "Quicker than expected" indeed, and far quicker than I've *ever* been able to write. (The single longest draft I've ever written, I think, was about 200 pages hand-written---almost 60,000 words---and while I mostly wrote only during lunch my junior? year of high school, it still took me most of the year to get that far.) I'm still plodding away at the preparatory work for my own (planned) novels.
ReplyDeleteYou will be disappointed with the length. I'm very concise. However, I think that you will be impressed with the visual images in my stories.
ReplyDeleteDisappointed with the length? We'll have to see; being more concise than I am isn't hard, but my mental estimate was the length of what I saw of "Writings on the Wall" before you took it down being one "part." And you've certainly passed me simply by finishing something at all recently, or even coming close to finishing. Like I said, most of my own work is still in the preparatory phases (my next step for most things is to outline them by sequence), with a few also having drafts a few chapters into the story.
ReplyDeleteI note in passing that my "longest draft" I mentioned above was abandoned at that length because I realized that it had a fatal plot flaw: an obviously invincible protagonist and point-of-view character, whose main weakness was not being able to be in two places at once. Besides that I didn't have any real idea where I was going with the story, so it was one tangential episode after another---which is a format that's easy to churn out, as some authors (cough---Burroughs---cough) have made their fortunes proving, but was *not* what I had set out to do.
I myself have made more progress on my writing the last two weeks than any other time in the last several months at least, I think; half or so of that was, with your help, beginning to revise the Internal Conflict prologue, and the last couple of days I've made major progress on the Earth-future-history timeline (up to 2941 in dates, though the last events I've added are earlier than I want them to be; I need to come up with some new threads to take up timeline space earlier) and my collection of character descriptions.
You said that "KttM" (I don't remember what that abbreviation unpacks to) is "revised and ready for publication"; are you going to send it to agents and publishers to try for traditional publication, or go the self-e-book publishing route? (Like I've said before, I'm hoping to self-e-publish a collection of the poetry I've posted on my blog, and if I revised, significantly polished, and most likely expanded it my novelette "A Murder, a Mystery, and a Marriage" would also be good to put on the market like that, since by posting it on my blog I've used up its "first serial" and other first publication rights.)
